The ninth State Softball Tournament was held October 10, 11 and 12, 2001 at Seymour Smith Fields in Omaha. Directors were Bill Lewis, NSAA; Duane Haith, Omaha Public Schools; Sue Mehaffey, Omaha Public Schools; and Paul Pennington, Omaha Central High School.
Six district champions and two wild card teams from each class comprised the field. The Class A wild card teams were Omaha Marian and Papillion-LaVista. The wild cards teams in Class B were Lincoln Pius X and Omaha Mercy. The Class C tournament was added for the 2001 season with Milford and Valley gaining wild-card berths to the state tournament.
