The State Football Playoffs began October 20, with qualifying rounds for all classes except Class A and D3. On Wednesday, November 4, there were 16 teams remaining in all classes. Playoff rounds continued with quarterfinals on November 9, semifinals on November 14. Finals for all classes were held at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln for the third year on November 19 (D3, D2), 20 (D1, C2) and 21 (C1, A, B). Paid attendance for state finals: 21,723.

Class A was made up of the 25 largest schools playing football; the next 31 largest were Class B; the next 64 schools were Class C1 and the remainder of the schools playing 11-man football were Class C2. The D1 and D2 schools were all schools playing 8-man football. There were 55 in D1 and 51 in D2. Class D3 had 13 schools playing 6-man football. Seventeen schools playing eight-man and one playing six-man were above the playoff eligibility enrollment limits.
