NSAA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS: LINCOLN INFORMATION

 

The Nebraska State Championship tournaments provide special opportunities for the athletes and coaches who have worked hard all year and won a place in the Nebraska School Activities Association state finals.  The Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) recognizes the importance of this achievement and wants to make this visit a true championship experience!  The finals are held at Devaney Sports Center, Pershing Center, Lincoln Northeast High School and Lincoln Southwest High School.  In order to welcome the high school basketball players from your area, we offer the following information:

Suggested Routes to the Devaney Sports Center for State Tournament Travelers:

 

The road(s) to the State Basketball Tournament at the Bob Devaney Sports Center remains primarily unchanged, but due to the progression of the Antelope Valley project, we recommend the following routes to the Devaney

Center:

 

From the west – Take I-80 Exit 403 (“27th Street” Exit), proceed south on 27th Street to Cornhusker Hwy.  Turn left and proceed one block to State Fair Park Drive/Devaney Center.

 

Or, take Exit 399 (“Airport” Exit); proceed to Cornhusker Hwy, then exit at 14th Street or 27th Street south to State Fair Park/Devaney Center.

 

From the east on I-80 – Take Exit 403 (“27th Street” Exit), proceed south on 27th Street to Cornhusker Hwy.  Turn left and proceed one block to State Fair Park Drive/Devaney Center.

 

From the east on “O” Street – Proceed west to 27th Street, then north to Theresa St. then east one block to State Fair Park Drive/Devaney Center.

 

From the north – Take I-180 south to Cornhusker Hwy.  Turn east and proceed

1/4 mile to the 14th St. exit then proceed south to Military Road, then east to State Fair Park/Devaney Center.

 

Or, take I-180 south to Cornhusker Hwy. Turn east and proceed 1.5 mile to State Fair Park Drive/ Devaney Center.

 

From the south – Take Hwy. 2 and proceed to 10th Street north (do not go on I-180, stay right and remain on 10th Street).  Continue north on 10th Street, past Memorial Stadium, to Military Road, Military Road east to State Fair Park/Devaney Center.

 

From Downtown – Take 17th Street north past Vine Street and past Abel-Sandoz dormitory, to T intersection at “Y” Street Connector.  Go east one block, then turn left to access 17th Street to the Devaney Center.

 

NOTE – All tournament traffic is requested to use State Fair Park Drive off of N. 27th Street to enter and exit the State Fair grounds.  Limited parking space will be available to the public on the west on south sides of the Devaney Center.

PARKING

Downtown: Approximately 20,000 spaces are available – in metered, on-street space or in parking lots or garages. Of those, about 16,000 are available for general public use daily.  The City of Lincoln Parking System operates all city parking facilities.  For questions or information, please call them at 441-6472.  Parking for oversize vehicles can be arranged by calling Central Parking at 474-9555 or (402) 306-0471 or Polygon Corp. at 770-7659. 

Elsewhere: Free, off-street parking is convenient to most shopping, dining and business areas. On-street parking is free in residential districts.

Fees: On-street metered spaces, with time limits ranging from 10 minutes to 10 hours, are 25 to 50 cents per hour. Parking meters are not monitored on Sundays and after 6 p.m. all other days. Public facility fees vary from 40 cents to $1 per hour, with a maximum of $4-$6 for all-day parking.

On March 3, matches are played at four sites. On March 4, matches are played at Devaney and Pershing. On March 5, all matches are played at Devaney. Parking availability is as follows:

Pershing Center – Downtown parking is listed above.

Devaney Sports Center – State Fair Park grounds has free, unlimited parking. Use entrances from 27th Street. The University lot south of Devaney is open in the morning on Thurs. & Fri. and all day Sat. Cost is $5.  The University lot west north of the train tracks and on the west side of N. 17th Street is open after 4 p.m. on Thurs. & Fri. and all day Sat.  Cost is $5.

Lincoln Northeast – Parking is available in the school parking lot.

Lincoln Southwest – Parking is available in the south side of building.

SPECIAL SERVICES

Lincoln is thrilled to once again host the State High School Girls Basketball tournament March 3 – 5, 2005. As a courtesy to participants, friends, family, and fans, the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau will be setting up welcome desks at each tournament site on Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4th. Convention and Visitors Bureau staff will provide helpful resources to tournament-goers while they are in Lincoln. Fans should plan to stop by tables to pick up to pick up a FREE Lincoln Visitors Guide along with additional information to help you enjoy your stay in Lincoln.  And, of course, we’ll be happy to answer questions about the city. 

As a special welcome, the Lincoln CVB has again implemented the Ambassador Program to assist the coaches and teams throughout the tournament.  An Ambassador has been selected for each team that requested one.  The Ambassador will help in any way possible in the effort to make this year’s tournament an enjoyable and memorable championship experience.  A wide array of Lincoln information is also available at www.lincoln.org
